Text: 1 Peter 3:9(KJV)
Not rendering evil
for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye
are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing
Friends, in the world filled with wickedness, as
believers we are encouraged not to respond to hurts, insults, maltreat by doing
the same to people. Rather, the bible is teaching us to respond with love,
forgiveness, show kindness and allow God to be the judge of all. God is
teaching us a higher standard of living with divine enablement as we model this
virtue. But, the world and our flesh wants to strike back for revenge. Yes, it
is a difficult virtue but the nature of Christ transforms us even to render
good for evil by following good to all men. 1 Thessalonians
5:15 See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that
which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men. Hence,
responding with good when treated with evil is not weakness rather it is a sign
of strength. Like Joseph whose brothers sold for slavery forgave them even fed
them during famine. So, we can trust God again to handle injustice on our
behalf today. Rom.12:17-18 Recompense to no man
evil for evil… If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with
all men.
Interestingly, we are expected not to fight evil
with evil because it will rather multiply more evil. Therefore, we should not
allow retaliation, bitterness to dictate our actions. Mathew
5:44 Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that
hate you. We should imitate Christ who was mocked, tortured and
crucified but handed over all to God for judgment. Though you hope for nothing
by this principle but your reward shall be great. I pray the Holy Spirit will
en-grace us to shine as light instead of hatred with revenge in Jesus name.
PRAYER POINT:
Oh Lord train and teach us not render evil as a repay for evil but
help us to forgive as to render kindness to wrong doings in Jesus name.
