The Weight of the Cross

HAPPY GOOD FRIDAY

Text: Isaiah 53:5 (KJV)

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

2 Corinthians 5:21 - For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him

Friends, the cross was not just a symbol but it carried a weight beyond human understanding. Jesus bore the weight of sin, shame, pain, death and separation, so that we could walk in freedom. Yes, every step He took towards Calvary was heavy, not just because of the wooden cross, but because of the burden of humanity placed upon Him which is the spiritual perspective of the cross. When Simon of Cyrene was compelled to help carry the cross, it revealed how intense the suffering had become. Luke 23:26 And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon of Cyrene, coming out of the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus Christ.  Yet, even in that moment, Jesus did not turn back. He was in a journey of purpose for our redemption. Let’s embrace Jesus with the sacrifice, today. He endured the pain because He saw the purpose, your redemption and mine was in the weight. We should learn to honour the sacrifice by total submission with our lives. So, your burden is paid already on the cross. Galatians 3:13 Jesus Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree. Let’s enjoy the finished work on the cross.

However, the weight of the cross reminds us that our salvation was weighty and costly. It was not just a cheap grace; it was paid for with His blood, His suffering, and His sacrifice. Therefore, because He carried that weight, we no longer have to carry the burden of sin and condemnation. 1 Peter 2:24 He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed. Today, let’s reflect deeply: Are you still carrying what Jesus has already paid for? The cross is an invitation to release your burdens and embrace the freedom He has given. We should release every burden and live in the victory in Jesus name.

Prayer Point:

Lord Jesus, thank You for carrying the weight of my sins on the cross. I am grateful for the sacrifice You made for my freedom in this crucifixion morning in Jesus name.

Action Quote: Remember, to walk in freedom because you are redeemed, forgiven, and restored because of the finished work on the c
