Text: Mathew 27:64 (KJV)
Command therefore that
the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by
night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead:
so the last error shall be worse than the first.
Friends, this phrase was made by the Chief Priest and
the Pharisees as they went to Pilate after crucifying Jesus. Yes, they remembered
the teaching of Jesus while he was alive in that He will rise again after three
days. They called this an error but it was an eternal truth for our Christian
experience. And they began their preparation to stop such as they saw it as the
worst and last error as they believe the first error was in all the teachings
of Jesus. Hence, they commanded the sepulcher be made sure until the third day
just to stop Him. All of these were done to hinder the resurrection prophesy
from finding fulfilment at the set time. Romans 1:4 And declared to be the Son of God with power, according
to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead
Interestingly,
that was the hope of salvation for the whole world but called it an error. They also speculated that the disciples can
steal him away and say to people HE IS RISEN. Mathew
28:6 He
is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord
lay. However, nothing could hold Him down in the grave.
Yes, it was a worst error even as they made it as sure as they can. Although, they
went and made the sepulcher sure, sealing the stone to avoid any form of error
seeing there is no space left for human intervention but it become an error to
the actual truth. And finally, they set
a watch and keepers to guard the tomb, but all to no avail as their efforts all
proved abortive. And today Jesus is risen as we are risen with Him and nothing
can keep us down in the grave. The grave is empty as the stone is rolled away
for us to be with the risen King daily. I pray we shall encounter Him afresh today in
Jesus name.
PRAYER POINT:
1. Father help to spread the good
news of your resurrection as we go into all nations for God is with us even to
the end in Jesus name.
ACTION QUOTE: Remember the final
victory even in the grave.
