Text: Daniel 1:5
(KJV)
And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king’s meat,
and of the wine which he drank: so nourishing them three years, that at the end
thereof they might stand before the king.
Have you ever noticed that there is an appointment
that one gets that takes them to the palace in a triumphant way? This palace is
a place of noiseless breakthrough, where your efforts are not needed. In this
place, life is beautiful and it has every good thing available. According to
our text, we can see that this appointment qualified them for promotion
packages, but they had to choose between their faith or following the king’s
pattern of things. The best part is that we are qualified by Christ, so our
labours are not needed.
Daniel 1:8- But Daniel purposed in his heart
that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with
the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs
that he might not defile himself. We should be careful with certain offers of appointment
because it might make us compromise our choices, values and our associations
which in turn would affect our faith, but in the case of Daniel, he decided not
to defile himself with the royal food and wine, which was a good decision.
Daniel was so conscious because he did not want to get contaminated and deny
his belief. He declared that he wanted to be exempted and sought for permission
not to eat the king's meal. This decision made them to be separated and
equipped with the unique ability to stand out at the end of the three years. May
God single us out for honour in Jesus name.
