Safe Under His Mercy

Text: Psalm 57:1 (KJV)
Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast.

Friends, the scripture above gives us a powerful picture of where to run to in the time of challenge as a refuge because that destructive disaster can pass by. It is the mercy and covering of God that we need to overcome calamity.  Hence, the psalmist cries out, “Be merciful unto me, O God,” showing a deep dependence on God’s compassion rather than human strength. Mercy speaks of God’s loving kindness that shields, preserves, and sustains us even when we are weak. Hebrews 4:16 encourages us to come boldly to the throne of grace to obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.  The phrase “the shadow of thy wings” is a beautiful image of protection, safety, and closeness. Just as a bird covers its young under its wings, God covers us from harm, fear, and danger. Psalm 91:4 says, “He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust.”

Interestingly, the psalmist does not deny the presence of calamities but expresses confidence that they are temporary because it is a calamity that will pass away.  This reminds us that every storm has an expiry date, and God’s protection will keep us through it. Therefore, no matter what you are facing, take refuge in God. Trust in His mercy, rest under His covering, and remain confident that the situation will come to pass. Remember, in His presence, there is safety, peace, and assurance even at the current storm in Jesus name.

Prayer Points:

  1. Lord, have mercy on us and cover us under the shadow of Your wings in every situation in Jesus' name.
  2. Heavenly Father, let Your protection preserve us until every storm in our lives passes in Jesus' name.

Action Quote: Remember, in the place of God’s mercy, you are safe until every storm passes.
