Text: John 8:31 (KJV)
Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye
continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed.
Friends, hearing God's Word is important, but continuing in
it is what demonstrates a life of genuine discipleship. Many people begin their
spiritual journey with excitement, but as challenges, distractions, and
competing interests arise, many struggle to remain consistent. But the
scripture reminds us that being His disciple involves is more than an initial
confession of faith. Rather, it requires an ongoing commitment to His teaching.
Psalm 119:11 says, Thy word have I hid in mine
heart, that I might not sin against thee. God's Word must become part of
our daily lives, influencing our thoughts, decisions, speech, and actions. When
we consistently study Scripture, meditate on its instructions, and obey what we
learn, we develop spiritual maturity. It is not enough to read the Bible only
when we face difficulties; we must learn to treasure God's Word in every
season.
Amazingly, Jesus demonstrated the importance of standing on
God's Word when He was tempted in the wilderness.
In Matthew 4:4, He answered, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone,
but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Jesus
responded to temptation with the truth of Scripture. Similarly, we need God's
Word to guide, and correct our choices. Joshua 1:8
encourages us to meditate on God's Word day and night and to be careful to obey
it. Therefore, develop a
consistent habit of studying, reflecting, and putting the scriptures into
practice. When God's Word corrects you, also receive the correction. Remember,
spiritual growth is not sustained by occasional encounters with God's Word but
by a continuing relationship with Him through His truth. May we receive grace
to remain steadfast in His Word and grow into mature disciples of Jesus Christ
in Jesus' name.
Prayer Point: Father, give me a heart that delights in Your Word
as I study consistently, understand, and obey Your instructions in every area
of my life in Jesus' name.
Action Quote: Friends, do not merely begin with God's Word but continue
in it, grow through it, and let it shape the way you live every day.
