Recognize God's Messenger

Text: 2 Kings 1:7–8 (KJV)

And he said unto them, What manner of man was he which came up to meet you, and told you these words?  8 And they answered him, He was an hairy man, and girt with a girdle of leather about his loins. And he said, It is Elijah the Tishbite.

Friends, it is important we note that through the Scriptures, God speaks through men and women He appoints. We can see that Elijah faithfully delivered God's message without fear or compromise, even to a king Ahaziah, as he sent his messengers to inquire whether he shall recover of this disease . Although his appearance was simple, his authority came from God. This teaches us that God's messengers should not be judged by outward appearance but by their faithfulness to His Word. We are encouraged as believers to remember those who faithfully speak God's Word and value them.  1 Thessalonians 5:12–13 - And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; 13 And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves. So, we are called to honour as we esteem them highly for their work's sake.

Surprisingly, many people miss God's direction because they ignore or despise the messengers He sends into their lives. God may speak through pastors, teachers, mentors, parents, or mature believers to guide, correct, and encourage us. Then, do not underestimate God’s sent word through His servant. Luke 10:16 - He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.. Therefore, develop a teachable spirit, value godly counsel, and carefully examine every message according to Scripture. As you honour those whom God uses to speak His truth, you will grow in wisdom, avoid unnecessary mistakes, and walk confidently in His purpose in Jesus' name.

Prayer Point:
Oh Lord, give me a discerning heart to recognize and receive the truth You speak through Your faithful servants. Help me to obey Your voice with humility in Jesus' name.
