Developing a Servanthood Heart

Text: Mark 10:45

For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

Friends, true greatness in God's Kingdom is measured by humility and service, not by titles or positions. Unfortunately, it is a common mistake by many today.  In fact, it is a selfless service as we live a life for the benefit of others following the example of Jesus. Indeed, Jesus Christ demonstrated the perfect example of servant leadership by willingly serving others with love, compassion, and selflessness. Developing a servant's heart means placing God's will above our personal ambition and seeking opportunities to bless others without expecting recognition or reward. Yes, even without a hidden motive. Philippians 2:3–4- Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. That means living in the in interests of others for the sake of God. So, as we serve with sincerity, we reflect the character of Christ and become instruments of His love to humanity. Galatians 5:13 - For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.

Interestingly, we see people today seeking positions of influence but neglect the responsibility of faithful service. But, God however, honors those who serve Him and others with humility. Therefore, look for opportunities to encourage, support, and uplift those around you like we saw in the life Dorcas by her generosity towards the poor and the widows. John 13:14–15 - If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.  Henceforth, serve faithfully in your home, workplace, church, and community with a joyful heart. As you develop a servant's heart, God will increase your influence, strengthen your character, and use your life to impact many for His glory in Jesus' name.

Prayer Point:

Father, give me a humble and willing heart to serve faithfully as you remove every spirit of pride and selfishness, and help me to reflect the love of Christ in Jesus' name.

Action Quote: Remember, a heart that serves others with humility reflects the heart of Christ.
