Text: 2 Kings 1:13–15 (KJV)
And he sent again a captain of the third fifty with his fifty. And the third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and besought him, and said unto him, O man of God, I pray thee, let my life, and the life of these fifty thy servants, be precious in thy sight. 14 Behold, there came fire down from heaven, and burnt up the two captains of the former fifties with their fifties: therefore let my life now be precious in thy sight. 15 And the angel of the LORD said unto Elijah, Go down with him: be not afraid of him. And he arose, and went down with him unto the king.
Friends, humility is one of the greatest qualities that brings about God’s honour. On the other hand, pride invites resistance as God opposes the proud but humility attracts God's mercy and favour. We can see from the text today that the third captain understood the fate of those before him, yet instead of approaching Elijah with pride, he humbled himself and pleaded for mercy as he fell on his knees. Thereafter, because of his humility, both he and his men were spared. James 4:6 - But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble Likewise, 1 Peter 5:6 encourages us to humble ourselves under God's mighty hand so that He may exalt us in due time. So, humility is the posture that invites God's grace, forgiveness, guidance, and mercy. So. let’s learn to walk in humility at all times.
Amazingly, our world often celebrates self-promotion and pride, but God's Kingdom rewards humility. When we acknowledge our dependence on God and treat others with respect, we position ourselves to receive His grace. 2 Chronicles 7:14 - If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. Therefore, choose humility in your relationships, your service, and your walk with God and humanity, today. As you humble yourself before Him, His mercy will speak for you, His grace will sustain you, and His favour will distinguish your life in Jesus' name.
Prayer Point:
Oh Lord, remove every trace of pride from our hearts and teach us to walk humbly before You and to receive Your mercy and grace each day in Jesus' name.
Action Quote: Remember, humility positions us to receive God’s mercy as it opens doors that pride can never unlock.
