Look Back to Gain Strength

Text: Isaiah 51:1 (KJV)
Hearken to me, ye that follow after righteousness, ye that seek the Lord: look unto the rock whence ye are hewn, and to the hole of the pit whence ye are digged.

Friends, in our journey of faith, there are moments when we feel discouraged. Hence, in such a time we need to learn to look back and not to dwell in the past, but to draw strength and perspective from your source. So, our rock is God himself, who is our foundation. It reminds us of where God has brought us from, the battles He has fought for us, and the victories He has already given. Therefore, reflecting on this build confidence that the same God who helped us before is still able to sustain us now. Deuteronomy 32:4 says He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he. Looking at “the hole of the pit” is a reminder of our humble beginnings and the grace that lifted us. It keeps us grounded, grateful, and dependent on God. Psalm 40:2 says, He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock

Interestingly, when we remember our spiritual roots and God’s faithfulness, our faith is strengthened for present and future challenges. Hebrews 13:8 assures us that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. This means His power has not diminished, and His promises still stand. Therefore, in times of weakness or uncertainty, take time to reflect on God’s past goodness. Let your history with Him fuel your hope and courage. As you do, you will stand firm, knowing that the Rock you came from is unshakable. And we shall stand unmovable in that storm in Jesus name.

Prayer Points:

  1. Oh Lord, help us to remember Your faithfulness in our past as to draw strength from them in Jesus' name.
  2. Heavenly Father, keep us rooted in You, our Rock, so we can remain steadfast in every season in Jesus' name.

Action Quote: Remember, where God brought you from, it is a pointer that you can gain strength for where He is taking you.
