Be Specific in Gratitude

Text: Psalm 103: 1-3

Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases.”

Friends, it is time we stop the error and be specific in our thanksgiving. Gratitude is a powerful spiritual habit, but two common mistakes often weaken our thanksgiving: undervaluing God’s blessings and generalizing our thanks.First, many people call certain blessings “small.” Yet Jesus reminds us in John 15:5, I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”Hence, every breath, opportunity, and provision comes from God. So, what we consider small may actually be a miracle someone else is praying for.Second, people often give general thanksgiving. Instead of remembering specific blessings, they simply say, “Thank you for everything.” God’s blessings come one by one, so our gratitude should also be specific at all times.

Therefore, let’s take time today to thank God intentionally, for life, health, protection, family, and opportunities. However, specific gratitude actually deepens our awareness of His goodness.Even when circumstances are challenging, the Bible instructs us to remain grateful. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 says, “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you”. Likewise, Colossians 3:17 reminds us - And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.I encourage us to choose gratitude in all situations, our perspective changesand automatically that changes our situation too for a new testimony in Jesus name.

Prayer Point:

  1. Heavenly Father, teach us to live a lifestyle of specific gratitude at all times as God is specific in our answers, in Jesus’ name.

Action Quote: Friends, do not forget to thank God today, because He did not forget to specifically wake you up.
