Text: Lamentations 3:22–23 (KJV)
It is of the Lord’s mercies that
we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every
morning: great is thy faithfulness.
Friends, starting a new day with gratitude should be our culture that cannot be distracted. If I may ask, when you wake up in the morning, what is the first thing you do? Different people will have different answers. Some will kneel by their bed side to pray, some will check their phones, some rush into their daily routines, and others immediately begin to think about the tasks ahead. However, there is one habit that every believer should cultivate which is the habit of giving thanks to God the moment we open our eyes. Many people say to themselves, “I will thank God later.” But gratitude should not be postponed. The very first words from our lips should simply be -God, I thank You.This is not even a full prayer yet. It is a sincere acknowledgement of God's goodness. After expressing gratitude, then we can continue with prayer.Psalms 103:2- Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits
Amazingly, the reason we should start our day with gratitude is because God never stops watching over us.Psalm 121:4 says:Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.Hence, while we slept, God stayed awake protecting us. If God were to sleep even for a moment, the entire world would fall into disorder. Yet His mercy watches over us day and night. However, the blessings we enjoy today did not originate from us. The Bible reminds us in James 1:17:Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights.Everything good in our lives from life, health, protection, opportunitiescame from God.Therefore, remember, every morning to give God quality thanks as it is proof of God's mercy. We can see waking up itself is a miracle because many people never experience it.Therefore, let’s begin every day with gratitude as a lifestyle in Jesus name.
Prayer Point
- Oh Lord, help me to recognize Your hand in my life every day despite the challenges of the previous day in Jesus’ name.
