Coat Of Many Colours

Text: Genesis 37:3 (KJV)

Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours 

Friends, the coat of many colours is a special garment which was given by Jacob to Joseph as a mark of nobility as it is a very rare and costly gift. It is a symbol of favour and deep affection to him. It is a sign of special love among his brethren with multicoloured garment that set him apart for distinction. This is a garment of royalty that placed him special in the father’s eyes. Psalm 5:12 For You, Lord, will bless the righteous; with favour You will surround him as with a shield.  And today, God is giving us a coat of many colours that is a gift which is loaded with diversities of inheritance both here on earth and eternity in view. Hence, we are wearing garment of many colours that represents God’s calling into spiritual gifts of grace, favour, love, honour, glory etc as they prepare us into elevation for our future with royal garment of sonship and rulership. Today, as God’s special children, we also wear spiritual coat with diverse blessings as our true identity which is covered with Jesus as we hid in Him. Isaiah 61:10 - I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness…

Unfortunately, such a special garment stirred up envy among the brethren. It brought about hatred and jealousy which led to betrayal as he was sold for slavery. This is a proof that God’s blessing on someone’s life can even stir up envy and opposition at the long run. Genesis 37:31–32 And they took Joseph’s coat, and killed a kid of the goats, and dipped the coat in the blood; And they sent the coat of many colours, and they brought it to their father... But, we have the grace to endure oppositions and remain faithful to the end. But remember your blessings from God must not be celebrated by everyone. Hence, it cannot be stripped away because what God has ordained cannot be destroyed in Jesus name.

PRAYER POINT:  

Father, thank you for clothing us with your love. Help us to walk in your purpose as designed by God as we value this special coat of God’s inheritance in Jesus name.
