Enquire to Overtake

 

Text: 1 Samuel 30:8 (KJV)

And David enquired at the LORD, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all.

Friends, we need to learn how to seek God's direction before taking action for our victory. Many people pursue goals, and solutions based solely on human wisdom, only to encounter frustration and disappointment on the way. But, David's experience at Ziklag teaches us a powerful lesson: before he pursued the Amalekites, he first enquired of the Lord. Though he was distressed and faced a painful situation, he did not allow his emotions to control his decisions. Instead, he sought God's counsel and received divine assurance: "Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all." And it preceded divine victory. God knows the path to success, and desires His children to seek Him for direction. We struggle today because we go ahead without consulting God. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us: "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." Therefore, before making any important decisions, we must first enquire of the Lord through prayer, His Word, and the leading of the Holy Spirit. God's guidance helps us avoid unnecessary battles and positions us for victory as provides all we need to overtake obstacle standing in our way.

Interestingly, many sought God's direction and experienced remarkable success. For instance, Abraham obeyed God's instruction and became the father of many nations. Joshua sought the Lord's guidance and led Israel into victory over their enemies. Jehoshaphat enquired of God during a national crisis and witnessed a miraculous deliverance. These examples remind us that divine direction always produces divine results. Psalm 32:8  says, "I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye." Today, do not rely solely on yourself because He will show you the right path, empower you to overtake every challenge and lead you to victory. I pray that the Lord will grant us wisdom to enquire of the Lord before taking action in Jesus' name.

Heavenly father, teach us to seek Your direction and grant us wisdom to make the right decisions, and empower us to overtake all as to fulfil purpose in life, in Jesus' name.
