Give Cheerfully, not Grudgingly

Text: 2 Corinthians 9:7 (KJV)
Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

Friends, giving is not only about the gift but also about the heart behind the giving. God is pleased with a prepared and cheerful heart.  God desires that His children give willingly and joyfully, not out of pressure, compulsion, or reluctance. Therefore, let our giving come from a willing heart ready to honor God. When generosity flows from a cheerful spirit, it becomes an act of worship that delights God’s heart. True generosity reflects our trust in God as our source and provider. We acknowledge that everything we have comes from God by giving cheerfully, not grudgingly. Hence, a cheerful giver does not give with regret but with gratitude and faith that God will continue to supply. Proverbs 3:9–10 says, Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.  So, our honour and resources to God invites divine abundance, daily.

Furthermore, cheerful giving brings joy and spiritual fulfillment. When we give with the right motive, our hearts are filled with peace and gratitude as we do God’s work. Acts 20:35 reminds us that it is more blessed to give than to receive. The blessing goes beyond material rewards but strengthens our faith, builds compassion, and aligns us with God’s purpose. Therefore, let us cultivate the habit of cheerful giving with our all. It demonstrates our love for God and humanity. As we give willingly and faithfully, God multiplies what we sow and uses it to bless many lives out there. I pray that the Lord will give us hearts that rejoice in giving so that our offerings will always be pleasing to Him in Jesus name.

Prayer Points:

  1. Oh Lord, create in me a joyful and willing heart that gives cheerfully and honors You in Jesus name.
  2. Father, as I give with sincerity and love, multiply my seed and use my life as a blessing to others in Jesus name.

Action Quote: Remember, cheerful giving is not a loss; it is a joyful seed that produces lasting blessings.
