Courage to Obey God

 

Text: Joshua 1:7 (KJV)
Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.”

Friends, obeying God requires courage at all times, especially when His instructions are difficult or unfamiliar. This is a difficult moment to actually take a step, so you need courage from above. But Joshua also needed courage to follow God’s instructions and fulfil his assignment. In the same way, we must trust God enough to obey Him even when we cannot see the outcome. Therefore, do not allow fear, doubt, and people’s opinions to discourage us from obeying God. But 1 Samuel 15:22 reminds us, “To obey is better than sacrifice.” Remember, true faith is demonstrated through obedience.

You can see how Noah showed courageous obedience in the building of the ark. Although he had not seen the coming flood, he obeyed God’s instruction and built the ark. Hebrews 11:7 says, “By faith Noah… moved with fear, prepared an ark.” Therefore, do not allow fear to stop you from obeying God. But trust His wisdom, follow His Word, and believe that He will guide you as you take each step of obedience in Jesus name.

Father, give me the courage to obey You even when it is difficult. Help me to overcome fear and faithfully follow Your will in Jesus’ name.
